Green Space Project Gets Green Light

Local Lib Dem Councillor Kabeer Hussain has hailed news that a major programme of works is due to start on the green space site adjacent to Royal Park Primary School. After a series of consultations with Leeds City Council Planners, environmental bodies, local residents and ward members the project has finally got the go ahead. Work on site will get underway on Monday the 19th of September 2005. The new facilities, which will include a multi - use sports court and children's play area will be up and running by the end of January 2006.

Councillor Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "My fellow ward colleagues and I are delighted that the project is finally up and running. The redevelopment of green space greenspace here in Hyde Park will provide a much needed outlet for the community, particularly Green spaces youngsters. Greenspaces are a major asset for inner city wards which must be utilised. The Neighbourhoods and Housing Major Project Team has worked hard to ensure that the facilities on offer are ones local residents want."

  • The Neighbourhoods and Housing Major Projects Team has worked in partnership with local community groups for the redevelopment of Green space Royal Park Greenspace site for a number of years.
  • The Royal Park greenspace is located on land between Queens Road and Kings Road in the Hyde Park and Woodhouse ward and is adjacent to the former Royal green space Primary School. The greenspace in a heavily populated area which primarily consist of back to back housing with few sports facilities on offer to local children and young people.
  • The scheme for the site includes, perimeter fencing of the site, to deter fly tipping and abandoned cars. Although the site will remain as open access to all residents. The proposal also includes a multi-use sports court which will allow opportunities for football, cricket and basketball, an informal play area (tarmaced area with painted games for young children) new seating, bins, landscaping and new paths for disable access.
  • Consultation on the plans has taken place with a wide range of local groups and all statutory approvals are in place. The funding for the scheme has been secured from:

Work on site is due to start on the 19th of September 2005 and complete at the end of January 2006.
