News that plans for two telecommunication masts in the Rothwell ward have been rejected has been hailed by local Cllrs Mitchell Galdas and Steve Smith. The applications submitted by telecommunications giant T Mobile for sites in Oulton, South Leeds have been refused by Officers at Leeds City Council's Planning Department after fears the masts would undermine the area's aesthetic appeal. The sites on Leeds Road and Wakefield Road are both within Rothwell's designated conservation area.
Councillor Mitchell Galdas (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said, "My fellow ward councillors and I are delighted that both of these applications have been refused. This is the fourth time T mobile has tried to push through the application on Leeds Road in as many years. Perhaps now T Mobile will take time to reassess their plans and accept that this is not a suitable location."
Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) added, "Proposals for phone masts in conservation areas will simply not be tolerated. There are a number of options open to companies who wish to erect phone masts but consultation with local residents and Councillors must take place."
