Local Lib Dem Councillors Ralph Pryke, David Hollingsworth and Richard Brett have announced the launch of pioneering community group in Richmond Hill, East Leeds. Following a walkabout by a local steering group the Friends of East End Park formed with the specific aim of improving the park's lacklustre appearance. Already taking the initiative the Friends have met with a Senior Parks Officer to discuss the best ways to encourage people to use the park.
Councillor Pryke (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said: "For too long East End Park has been considered dilapidated and in need of a serious makeover. The park's current state simply cannot be tolerated any longer ."
Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) commented: "The recent meeting (29th June 2005) identified three initial areas for improvement. The first to stop motorbikes getting onto the park, the second to install vandal proof seats and third to relocate litter bins to more frequently used areas."
Councillor Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) added: "Anyone who's interested in joining the Friends can come along on 25th July at 6:30pm to the entrance of Victoria Avenue. From that point we'll be going for a walk around the park and to meet with both a Parks Officer and a member of the Park Watch security team.'
