Thank You For Your Recycling Efforts - Keep it Up!

The city's household waste sorting sites have been extremely busy over recent weekends as householders have brought their rubbish - especially garden waste - for recycling, but the message from a senior Councillor is 'keep it coming'!

The Executive Member for City Services, Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said "The latest figures show that the Council has met its targets for recycling during the early part of this year. This is tremendous news, and due largely to people bringing so much rubbish to the Council's household waste sorting sites."

"The sorting sites have been very busy indeed during recent weekends, especially when the weather has been warm and people have had a lot of garden rubbish to dispose of. It's to the credit of the people of Leeds that so many of them have brought their waste along for recycling even though they may have had to queue. I'd like to thank everyone for making the effort."

"Of course the sorting sites are much quieter on weekdays, so I'd encourage anyone who can do so to avoid weekends. Over the summer the sites are open 9am to 5pm seven days a week."

Notes:

1. The council runs 11 household waste sorting sites across Leeds, for recycling and disposal of household and garden waste.

2. You can recycle most things at the sites, including cardboard, packaging, papers, magazines, metal cans, plastic, glass, textiles, wood, garden waste, oil, batteries, old mobile phones and other electrical goods. The sites will also dispose of most other non-recyclable household items as safely as possible.
