Following several complaints about the state of the grass in areas of Otley and Yeadon, Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon), demanded a meeting with an officer from City Services to assess the situation.
Cllr Ryk Downes explained "We had been told by the contractor that all areas of Leeds had been cut, but this clearly was not the case".
Cllr Downes spent all of Thursday afternoon showing the officer the parts of Otley & Yeadon which had been overlooked. At the end of the afternoon, the officer promised to take up the problem areas with the contractors immediately.
When Cllr Downes returned to the areas on Sunday evening, he found that virtually every area had now been cut as a result of the meeting. He urged people to let him know if they were aware of any remaining areas still to be cut. He will then take it up with the relevant officers.
Cllr Ryk Downes commented, "I am pleased that we have been able to overcome the teething problems with grass cutting so quickly. Local people made me aware of the problem, and the company responsible has now done the job. We will be watching carefully to make sure that this situation does not arise again."
Cllr Downes can be contacted on 07950 008005, through his office on 0113 2474580 or by email at Ryk.Downes@Leeds.gov.uk. Areas should now be cut at least once a fortnight for the rest of the Summer.
