Local Lib Dem Councillors Penny Ewens, Linda Rhodes - Clayton and Kabeer Hussain have highlighted their ward as being a hive of activity in the summer months. Situated between the city centre and the suburb of Headingley, the Hyde Park and Woodhouse ward has cultivated a reputation for hosting events and activities as diverse as the community that enjoys them. The multi - cultural make up of the ward has meant that a range of activities from Hip Hop break dancing to the reading of classical poetry to martial arts will be made available this summer.
Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "The diverse nature of the ward means we have creative input from all sections of the community. The range of the activities and events on offer to local residents this summer is very impressive ."
Councillor Rhodes - Clayton (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) commented, "Hyde Park & Woodhouse is a ward that really comes into its own in the summer months. Events such as Unity Day really underline this. "
Councillor Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) added, "Positive activities such as those provided by the Council's Youth Service are a key factor to reducing youth offending in the area. Local based programmes that engage and stimulate young people address issues such as boredom that are the root causes of anti - social behaviour."
