Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley Ward) has welcomed news that an appeal made by Vodaphone against an original decision by the Council to turn down a planning application to add 6 mobile phone antennae to a Headingley Hall of Residence has been dismissed by Government Inspectors, who were unhappy at the level and consistency of the information provided in the original application.
Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "This is welcome news for nearby residents and particularly the students at Highfield Halls. One criticism was that the materials used to disguise the equipment was not adequately described in the application - the inspector could not be sure that the materials would be appropriate. This was quite rightly deemed unacceptable. The Halls are next to a listed building - the last thing we need is equipment which sticks out like a sore thumb.""
