Liberal Democrat Cllr Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills) has welcomed moves to appoint a consortium to deliver a multi-million pound regeneration programme in South and East Leeds. Councillor Taylor said "We've been arguing for a scheme like this for a very long time, and at long last people are starting to listen. There's still some way to go before we will see these plans come to fruition, but when it does some of the most disadvantaged communities in Leeds will benefit from hundreds of millions of pounds of investment." "There will be investment in community facilities and housing the like of which we've never seen before, and which will go a long way towards closing the gap between these communities and the affluent areas in Leeds"
