Local Lib Dem Cllrs Greg Mulholland and Martin Hamilton have hailed the launch of the new Headingley Forum. The Forum, which will act as a sounding board for Headingley's many community and residents groups, is due to hold its first meeting at St Columbia Church Hall, Headingley on Monday 21st March 2005 at 7pm. Those attending the meeting will include representatives from the area's community associations, West Yorkshire Police, Headingley's local schools, residents groups and the local ward Councillors themselves.
Councillor Mulholland (Lib Dem, Headingely) who is Chair of the Headingley Forum said, "The Forum is a great way of bringing together the various community and residents groups that do so much for the area as well as giving each and every resident of Headingley the chance to air their ideas and concerns and have them passed on to the Council. The recent Lounge Cinema closure is a potent example of where a such a Forum would have come into its own. There is no substitute for an effective local response."
Councillor Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) who is North West Inner Area Chair added, "It is important that Headingley residents work together as a community, ensuring that they speak with a strong, united voice. The Forum will engage local people in issues that affect their lives. It will provide a platform for the views and concerns of the local community, allowing them to develop local solutions to local problems, drawing upon the experiences of the people directly effected.
