Cllr David Hollingsworth has welcomed Inner East Area Committee plans for extra youth services provision in East Leeds. The additional provision, which is being funded by the through the Wellbeing Budget Programme, will be concentrated in the inner city wards of Gipton & Harehills and Burmantofts & Richmond Hill. The overall aim of the youth projects will be to involve children/ young people who are not currently in contact with the Youth Service, with a particular emphasis on those under the age of thirteen causing anti - social behaviour. The entire project is due to be delivered within the current financial year and is in addition to a substantial youth provision funded by the East (Inner) Area Committee in Killigbeck and Seacroft.
Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) said: "This is great news for the young people of East Leeds. Positive activities such as those provided by the Wellbeing project are a key factor to reducing youth offending in the area. Local based programmes that engage and stimulate young people address issues such as boredom that are the root causes of anti - social behaviour."
Councillor Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) who is Chair of the East (Inner) Area Committee added, "This is wonderful. A real boost. It is important to support projects that provide an outlet for young people."
