A Local Lib Dem Councillor has welcomed the planned refurbishment of a park in North West Leeds. The refurbishment to Alexandra Park in the Hyde Park & Woodhouse ward is due to commence on Monday 7th February 2005. The project, managed by Leeds Groundwork Trust in conjunction with Leeds City Council's Neighbourhood's and Housing Department will see a boost for beleaguered parents in the area. Many local residents have been put off using the park's facilities due it's run down appearance.
Councillor Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "This refurbishment is a timely boost for the area. The provision of the new children's play equipment is welcome news for parents. The park is a valuable asset to the local community and warrants being given a much needed facelift."
The improvements to the park include landscaping at the top end of the park to include earth mounding with boulders; removal of obsolete and worn-out play equipment, replacement of some play equipment, improved seating, and provision of a sports "kick"wall/fence for ball games. Residents living nearby have been informed of the imminent works. The improvements will enhance the park and encourage use by parents with young children and aim to help reduce anti-social behaviour. The scheme, which has been delayed, is planned for completion within four weeks.
