On Monday 10th January the Headteacher of Mount St Marys School, Martin Flannery, contacted local ward Councillor Richard Brett with concerns that storm damage over the weekend had left a slate on a nearby Council house hanging by a thread over the children's playground. Mr Flannery had feared for his pupil's safety as the slate was threatening to fly off and was posing a major hazard to the children. Cllr Brett was asked to urgently contact South East Leeds Homes to try to get the roof fixed. Mr Flannery also explained to Councillor Brett that he had no warning tape to mark out an area of danger in the playground.
Councillor Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) commented: "I immediately contacted Jim Mulhern the Richmond Hill Housing Office manager and asked if he could action both of these requests. By the end of the school day some red plastic tape was delivered to the school and repairs to the council house roof have also been effected. How many Councillors "cut through red tape" and provide red tape at the same time."
