Cllr Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Headingley) is visiting Headingley Primary School this Friday (12th November) to talk to the children about his work as a Councillor. As part of the school's programme of citizenship education, Cllr Mulholland will take part in a meeting of the School Council after meeting with teachers and being shown around the school by some of the children.
Cllr Mulholland said "I'm delighted to help out with the children's citizenship education. It's really important to get young people from a very early age to think about their role in the community, and to learn about tolerance and respect for others. If we can help them to be thoughtful and responsible citizens as children, then they're much more likely to be thoughtful and responsible citizens when they become adults."
"The School Council at Headingley Primary is a great way of introducing the children to democratic and political systems, while at the same time teaching them how to listen to other people's opinions and share ideas."
