More Music in Schools, says Councillor

November 8, 2004 11:11 PM

Cllr Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) would like music to be reinstated as part of the formal education process.

Councillor Ewens says "Music is the most inclusive activity there is, yet the powers that be choose to promote individual activities - reading, writing and arithmetic - and music is often pushed to one side instead of being regarded as of equal importance. Making and listening to music can have enormous benefits, and those of every level of ability and every physical state can be included."

"Last Sunday I listened to the world famous steel band 'Ebony' in Leeds. It was superb living evidence of all the best attributes and qualities of music. I firmly believe that music should be promoted as a whole school activity, and as an integral part of the curriculum".
