Liberal Democrats on Leeds City Council have appointed Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) as the new Executive Board Member for City Services. He will be responsible for many of the Council's most high profile services, including Refuse Collection, Highways Maintenance, Street Cleansing, Recycling, Catering and Property Maintenance.
Leader of the Council Cllr Mark Harris (Lib Dem, Moortown) said "I'm very pleased that we have appointed Steve to the position. He has already proved himself to be very capable in his time as Lead Member for Leisure Services and supporting me in my work as Leader of Council. He has all of the necessary attributes and experience to carry out the very demanding role of Executive Member for City Services."
Cllr Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) added "I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the job. My predecessor David Morton has already made some real inroads towards tackling environmental crime in Leeds, in particular with illegal flyposting and graffiti, and I intend to continue that work. I also want to build upon the good work already done to make it easier for people to recycle. There's a huge amount still to be done, and I'm ready for the challenge."
