Local Lib Dem Councillors Welcome Scarth Avenue Regeneration Plans

October 8, 2004 6:37 PM

Liberal Democrat Councillors Javaid Akhtar and Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) are pleased to see plans for a much needed regeneration scheme for Scarth Avenue, Ashley Terrace and Florence Street in Harehills.

Cllr Akhtar said "I'm pleased to see that things are starting to happen. People living in the area have told us that they agree that the best thing to do in the area is to demolish the properties and start again".

"It's positive news for the local community, and shows that we're serious about closing the gap in the Gipton and Harehills area. I'm looking forward to seeing some real improvements around Scarth Avenue, which had been abandoned to vandals and criminals over the past few years. This is the first step towards regenerating the area, and we'll make sure local people will be consulted every step of the way".
