Liberal Democrat Councillor Ryk Downes (Lead Member for Enforcement) is pleased with the success of an innovative step by Leeds City Council at Tingley on Wednesday 29th September. 150 vehicles were investigated and numerous arrests made when enforcement agencies from across the city teamed up to pro actively crack down on illegal activity.
Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said "It was a resounding success with every agency able to identify offences. This sends out a very clear message that criminal activity of any kind will not be tolerated in Leeds."
"Initially the idea was to target fly-tippers, but six other agencies came on board and all had a successful day. Fly-tipping presents a serious risk of pollution and a person must have the right paperwork to prove they are going to dispose of it legally. We were very pleased that we prevented this load of hazardous waste being potentially dumped somewhere where it could have had a serious detrimental effect on the environment."
