Liberal Democrat Councillors in Leeds have welcomed the collection of over 25000 flyers over the last two weeks, which will now be recycled. Most of these would otherwise have ended up on the city's streets and cleaned up at Council Tax payers' expense.
Cllr David Morton (Lib Dem, Headingley), Executive Councillor responsible for street cleaning said "I'm delighted at the success of this initiative. We placed over 30 collection points along Woodhouse Lane all the way up to Headingley. Rather than littering the streets these 25000 flyers will now be recycled. That's over 181 kilograms of waste that won't go to landfill."
" The bins themselves have had anti-littering messages on them and I'm pleased with the support we've had from student groups. We accept that there is a long way to go with this issue and we will look at expanding the scheme next year."
