Leeds City Council's Youth Service celebrated its commitment to the continued professional development of the city's Youth Workers at an event held at the Civic Hall on 15th September.
The event brought together the Youth Workers who will be studying the Initial Professional Qualification (IPQ) over the next 7 months and their Tutors, Assessors and Management Team.
The IPQ course has been developed in conjunction with Leeds Met where the classes will be held.
Councillor Harker (LibDem, Moortown), Executive Member for Learning, said:
"Youth Workers achieving these qualifications and continuing to develop their knowledge and experience means we can offer a guaranteed level of service within the Youth Service and be ever more successful at reaching out to some of the most needy young people in the city."
Councillor Bentley (LibDem Weetwood), Lead Member for Young People's Services, added:
"I would like young people to reach their full potential as they are the future of the city. This is where the Youth Service comes in. Youth work is a very skillful job which is why this training is important."
Leeds City Council's Youth Service mostly works with 13 to 19 year olds giving them the opportunities, support and information they need to reach their full potential. Over 16,000 young people across the city have contact with the Youth Service every year
