Cllr Linda Sullivan is demanding urgent action to avoid a fatal accident on Bramley's roads.
Cllr Sullivan said "The Council must step up its efforts to improve road safety in Bramley. Broad Lane and Henconner Lane are officially listed among the most dangerous roads in Leeds, and there are countless streets plagued by rat-running and joy-riders. No matter how many times I ask the Council's Highways Department for traffic calming measures, nothing usually happens unless there's already been a serious accident on that stretch of road."
"It would make more sense to take action to prevent serious injuries or deaths before they happen. It's been proved that reducing speed greatly reduces the number of deaths and injuries to pedestrians and drivers, so why aren't more 20mph Zones being introduced - especially close to schools?"
"Where traffic calming has already been introduced, it's been very successful, but we need more. I know it costs money to put traffic calming and 20mph Zones in, but the cost of not doing it could be someone's life."
"I'd also like to see more support from Central Government to make the Council's job easier when it comes to road safety. The law could be changed to make it even simpler to set up things like Home Zones and to give Councils more power to set local speed limits."
