Following the recent announcement that Oulton Park Golf Course is to be leased to a private sector operator local councillors have received a number of enquiries from local residents who have been concerned to know what the new arrangements will bring.
Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said "We want to be sure that there will be minimal disruption when the new operator takes over and that existing arrangements will continue as regards concessions and facilities. We have had a meeting with senior council officers in order to ensure that local residents will continue to benefit from affordable golf with good amenities."
Following the meeting it can now be revealed that:
1. Lease terms will include
a) That the facility be operated on a pay and play basis with equal access to the course for all category of user subject to dress, etiquette and prior bookings.
b) That the golf course and associated facilities are well maintained.
c) That a range of annual memberships are available with provision for handicap and competitive play.
d) That Leeds residents will receive a discounted rate on the published standard green fee with further concessions available to both juniors and Priority LeedsCard holders (or equivalent future council scheme) - maintained at the current differential of 40%.
2. Clubhouse
This will be retained with the plan being to modify and refurbish as part of the planned investment programme.
3. Club membership
There will be club membership opportunities as per lease terms above. The club will be run and administered by the new operator.
4. Perimeter pathway
There will be a stipulation in the lease that the Permissive Pathway will be retained by the new operator with unrestricted access provided to the public.
5. Planned improvements to the facility are:
· New maintenance machinery
· Construction and improvements to the green keeping depot
· Fairway drainage
· Reconstruction of greens
· Reconstruction of tees
· Irrigation upgrade and improvements
· Improvements to clubhouse and construction of new driving range
· Improvements to car park and security
Commenting, Councillor Don Wilson said "We are pleased that there are to be improvements to the course and clubhouse and that golf will continue to be available at affordable rates."
