The latest in a series of improvements to Harehill's childrens playgrounds, this time at Hovingham Avenue, has been welcomed by Harehills Liberal Democrat Councillors Andrew Tear and Alan Taylor.
Cllr Taylor said "The improvements are paid for through regeneration funding given to the Council by the Government, and are not a moment too soon. There's a shortage of safe, entertaining places for youngsters to play in, and the work done on these playgrounds really makes a difference to their lives".
Cllr Tear added "This just goes to show what can be done when the Council listens to the wishes of local people. Residents requested better facilities for young children and teenagers, and we've seen real improvements at Ashton Road, Bankside Street and Banstead Park, and now Hovingham Avenue".
There's still lots to be done, but these schemes are a step in the right direction. As long as there's a shortage of decent recreation areas in Harehills we'll keep pushing for more schemes like these. Let's hope the Council is willing to stump up the cash for them".
Note
The improvements have been carried out using regeneration funds supplied by Central Government - the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB). SRB Round 3, which is being used in this case, targets young people aged between 9 and 25 who live in Harehills, Burmantofts, University and Chapel Allerton wards. SRB Round 3 will come to an end this March.
