Councillor Mark Harris, Leader of the Opposition Liberal Democrat Group on Leeds City Council, commenting on news reports that Leeds United plc may be about to go into administration said: .
"The news that Leeds United plc is faced with going into administration comes as a blow for the City, but it does not mean the end of the Club. If the 'plc' has to go into administration it will hopefully emerge fitter and stronger on the financial side. That, and the emergence of new investors, should safeguard its future.
"In the meantime Leeds City Council should support the Club in every way possible, short of financial investment. The days when the Council could afford to buy Elland Road in order to bail out the club are long gone. However the Council must accept that that the Football Club are ambassadors for the City, promoting our name and image across the globe, and bringing publicity which is priceless."
