Traffic Calming Needed on Crossroads

Councillor Linda Sullivan (Lib Dem, Bramley) is calling upon Leeds City Council's Highways Department for urgent action to make a crossroads that has seen a number of minor accidents in recent years safer for Bramley residents. Cllr Sullivan has asked the Head of Highways Services to investigate the possibility of installing road markings and traffic calming to slow traffic in the area around the crossroads of Fairfield Crescent, Nansen Mount, Station Grove and Station Mount.

Cllr Sullivan said "This area is rapidly gaining a reputation among local people as a place where accidents regularly occur. There is an ongoing problem with a minority of local youths who are involved in anti social behaviour and who think nothing of driving around these streets at high speeds, often in stolen cars. While tackling this kind of yobbish behaviour must be the Police and the Council's number one priority, traffic calming can at least make individual streets safer."

"Yet another accident occurred here last Sunday (5th October). The police who attended that incident agreed with the view of local residents that the lack of road markings make the crossroads more dangerous. That's why I contacted the Council's Highways Department requesting that they look into installing a chicane to slow traffic down as well as putting some road markings in."
