sponsorship is coming in for the second year of Headingley Christmas Lights; and local people and students are helping out ……
Last year saw the first ever Headingley Christmas Lights. The local CIT provided £16,000 to pay for the lights and the running costs - on condition that future years were paid for by commercial sponsorship.
Cllr David Morton (Headingley) said. " we want to make this year better than last. We are honoured that the Lord Mayor has agreed to attend the switch on ceremony and it seems that the first bits of commercial sponsorship are beginning to come in - but we need much more"
"We realised that raising the money was going to be hard so we agreed to employ two events management students from Leeds Metropolitan University over the summer to help. Students get a very bad press but this is an example of them using there skills to contribute to the area."
"Also the community is involved, we have funding for 2 new lights this year and I'm pleased local residents will be designing them, making the Headingley display distinctive"
"We have the plans - now we need the money! Any local business who wants to contribute should contact the Leeds Leisure Services Department."
