Councillor Linda Sullivan (Lib Dem, Bramley), has contacted Leeds City Council's Director of City Services demanding that dropped kerbs are provided for wheelchair users and disabled scooter riders in Bramley.
Cllr Sullivan said "Despite my repeated calls for action on this issue, there's little evidence that the Council is taking it seriously enough. Disabled scooter users are still forced to travel on the road in areas such as the Britannia and Rossefield Estates because there aren't enough dropped kerbs, and because pavements are often too bumpy for scooters. As these scooters only travel at 4mph this is dangerous both for the scooter riders and for other road users."
"At the last Full Council meeting I was given confirmation that work on dropped kerbs was being expedited. I'm sorry to say that this seems to be going the way of many other commitments made by the Labour Council, as I don't see much being done to improve the kerbs in Bramley."
"It's disgraceful that in 2003, the European Year of the Disabled, wheelchair and scooter users are forced to take inconvenient, and sometimes dangerous, detours in order to make everyday journeys such as to the shops."
